I've adopted my dog from katrina about 5 months ago.I had a hard time housebreaking her but now she's ok with that.Problem is,she refuses to go out in the rain and holds her pee till the next day.I don't think this is good for her and am afraid she'll get some infection.I tried piddle pads, diapers but none work. She knows she's not to pee on my carpet too but how can I get her to get used to the rain?

Hi
you should not worry too much about her not going for a pee as there is not a great risk with her getting an infection because of holding on until it stops raining. I am given the main reason for her not going out in the rain is cold when it gets to her skin. There is a couple of things you can do depending on how you feel about doing them, the first one is when you know she needs to go for a pee and it is raining put her outside the door and closes the door then watch to see if she goes for a pee if she does open the doors straight away when she has finished this way she will get to realise she won't be stuck out there, if she does not go for a pee straight away wait about 5 minutes before you let her back in the other choice is to standout side with her. It is a good idea to get her used to doing it now as when she is older it will be unlikely that she will be able to hold on so long and will start doing it in the house because she physically will not be a to hold on that long. so it is just getting her used to the cold and wet of the rain for a couple of minutes, it will only take a couple of weeks and she will get the hang of it.
Good luck lee

Thanks so much for the advice. She still holds it but I think she just goes when she wants to go now.But ti doesn't seem to afffect her body so i'm guessing as long as she can control it its ok,thanks again!! _________________ I'm a single woman living in USA.I thought I'd visit this website since I read about it and like to make friends with the other half side of the earth, lol.Hello people! |

why don't you get the doggie a coat.
when my then g/f and I bought our wax jackets from m&s, we also bought one for the dog (from a pet shop!) that matched. not intentionally matching, I hasten to add, but she loved it. we put it on her whenever it rained and it seemed to keep her warm and dryish. |
